Men’s Behaviour Change Programs

Men’s Behaviour Change Programs are designed for men who have used violence, coercion or control in their relationships with their partner, children or other family members. These programs aim to encourage men to take responsibility for their behaviour and provide them with the skills and tools necessary to change their behaviour and maintain respectful relationships.

A Men’s Behaviour Change Program is typically delivered by trained facilitators, usually in a group setting, and usually between 17 – 20 weeks. The program uses a range of approaches including group discussions, activities and psychoeducation to support participants to develop an understanding of the impact of their behaviour on victim-survivors, family members, and their community.

Men’s Behaviour Change Programs seek to support participants to choose non-violent alternatives and develop healthy relationship strategies.

It is important to note that the success of a Men’s Behaviour Change Program depends on the willingness and commitment of the men to participate and make changes to their behaviour. The program does not provide a quick fix, but rather a long-term approach to changing behaviour and maintaining respectful relationships.
