Thank you to everyone who attended our first federal election drop-in session today. It was great to see so many people eager to be involved in ensuring family violence remains a central issue in the campaign.
The federal election campaign season is officially underway!
The Federal Budget was handed down on 25 March, and we now have an election date for Saturday, 3 May. We have a responsibility to demonstrate to political leaders that family violence is a key election issue!
While the federal budget gestured towards key issues, it fell short of addressing them meaningfully. Like many of you, we were disappointed to see minimal commitments to end domestic, family and sexual violence. It did not provide the framework for the innovative, integrated systems response to people using violence that we know would work.
Right now – everywhere we can – we need to consistently remind politicians that addressing family violence is crucial and that voters care about this issue. People want policies aimed at ending violence to foster stronger families and safer communities.
