NTV condemns Coalition’s announcement

24 April 2025

Today, the Coalition unveiled their grab-bag of dot-points allegedly aimed at addressing domestic, family and sexual violence.  No to Violence, Australia’s peak body for organisations and individuals committed to ending men’s use of family violence, has condemned the Coalition’s announcement as lacking detail,  commitment to the scale of investment needed and the vision necessary to effectively tackle this national crisis.

Neither major parties have heard our call to focus on stopping violence at its source – that is, the men using violence and the need for a dedicated national strategy for people using violence.

At the same time, they are investing in a revolving door approach where police respond to the same men over and over again. With Police attending over 190,000 police call outs in a year in Queensland, more than 140,000 call outs in NSW and more than 100,000 call outs in Victoria.  The scale of investment in behaviour change programs and prevention initiatives is woefully inadequate. It is obvious that the status quo is not working and doing more of the same and expecting a different result simply does not make sense.

We want stronger families and safer communities, we need a strategic, coordinated and collaborative approach to holding those using violence accountable. We need a National Strategy to End Perpetration of Family Violence.

The status quo is a scattergun approach is failing victim/survivor and leaving the risk and burden of this national crisis with them, while people using violence go without the intervention needed to end their violence.

We are calling on all parties to commit to ending this chaos.
