No to Violence understands the Prime Minister, Premiers and Chief Ministers will meet at National Cabinet today to discuss further action to address Australia’s family violence crisis.
No to Violence CEO Phillip Ripper said governments must use the meeting to commit to tangible action that prevents violence, intervenes earlier and holds men who use violence accountable.
“Consultation on the next National Action Plan has reinforced a clear message to governments: more of the same will not deliver the change Australia needs. While we must keep doing everything possible to keep women and children safe, we will never see the dial shift until we tackle the problem at the source.” Mr Ripper said.
“Australia spends billions of dollars every year responding to the consequences of men’s use of family violence, while police and courts across the country remain under enormous pressure. Yet comparatively little is invested in prevention, early intervention, holding men accountable for their behaviour, and providing effective pathways away from violence.”
