Over the past week, Australia has yet again had to bear witness to a litany of family violence homicides occurring at disproportionate rates.
Children have lost mothers. Parents have lost children. Men have attacked women in the safety of their own homes. Communities mourn and struggle to come to grips with such violent loss. This must stop.
No to Violence CEO Jacqui Watt states:
“Put simply, we have to ramp up our work with men who use family violence.
If we do not work with men on a societal, community and individual level, we will see these murders continue to occur at disproportionate rates. This is unacceptable.
We must work harder to hold men to account in our community, and across the social service and justice system.”
Family violence is a national issue requiring a national response. No to Violence asks all men across Australia who are concerned about their behaviour, and would like help to change their behaviour, to call the Men’s Referral Service.
What is the Men’s Referral Service?
The Men’s Referral Service is a men’s family violence telephone counselling, information and referral service, and is No to Violence’s primary service arm. It is the central point of contact for men taking responsibility for their violent behaviour. Partners, family, friends and other service providers are encouraged to call for support 24 hours a day, and 7 days a week.
