Immediate release: National men’s behaviour change peak body drives awareness campaign across Tasmania

One of the most unsafe places for Tasmanian women is their own home.

As the largest peak body in Australia representing the men’s behaviour change sector, in 2016 we extended our men’s family violence helpline to Tasmania, Men’s Referral Service. Since then, we’ve seen a steady increase in calls to the Men’s Referral Service.

Additionally, we have raised awareness about men’s use of violence as a choice and where men can seek help to make better choices, ultimately improving outcomes for his family and himself.

To build awareness about our service in Tasmania, recently we rolled out a Men’s Referral Service campaign across men’s bathrooms.

As No to Violence’s CEO Jacqui Watt states:

“When men are at their local pub or sporting facility, we want them to see these ads and think, “well, what does my love look like?”

The Men’s Referral Service is a men’s family violence telephone counselling, information and referral service and is the central point of contact for men taking responsibility for their violent behaviour. Partners, family, friends and other service providers are also encouraged to call for support. Call 1300 766 491 or head to ntv.org.au to chat online.

Watt states further: “Violence against women and children is pervasive, constant and a men’s issue. Our men’s family violence helpline offers all men in this state a unique chance to change their behaviour, for good. Men can call our helpline, Men’s Referral Service, or live chat via our website, ntv.org.au”

The Men’s Referral Service has provided assistance, information, counselling, and referrals to additional services, helping over 150,000 men get the support they need and improving outcomes for families.
