The Five Essential Discussion Tools support those working with men who use family violence to help them understand their emotions and how they are linked to their violent and abusive behaviours.
For practitioners who are new to the field or have not explored de-escalation techniques in their work before, The Five Essential Discussion Tools original package has been revised to include foundational knowledge about the importance of interrupting harmful behaviour, and includes content on coercive control and the importance of not viewing family violence as incident based and/or a one off event.
The training identifies how practitioners can engage in conversations to help men make sense of their behaviour; examines the client facing tools; develops practice skills in using the tools as additional interventions with men using family violence; and discusses how safety for families can be established by connecting men with their capacity to change.
Includes a video activity which will support practitioners to identify invitations to collude, reframing of passive language and safety planning.
